Bina Bhattacharya – Writer, Producer, Director

Bina Bhattacharya is an award-winning filmmaker from Campbelltown in Sydney’s southwest. She’s a writer for the upcoming anthology feature film “Here Out West” about the intersecting lives of immigrant communities in Western Sydney, produced by Sheila Jayadev (Ali's Wedding) with Blake Ayshford (Mystery Road) Lyn Norfor (Undertow) and S. Shakthidharan (Counting and Cracking) as Executive Producers. 'Here Out West' has been successful in obtaining funding from Screen Australia and is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2020.


In 2018 Bina was one of five directors selected by the Australian Directors’ Guild for the inaugural Diversity Showcase, which was produced with the backing of the Media Entertainment Arts Alliance Equity Foundation, the Australian Writers' Guild, the ADG and Screen Australia.

Bina was awarded Best Screenplay for my short film ‘Musings’ at Sydney’s Made in the West Film Festival, where her 2017 short film ‘Wild Dances’ won the Audience Choice Award a year prior. ‘Wild Dances’ was also a Finalist for the 'My Queer Career' Short Film Competition as part of the Mardi Gras Film Festival, and screened at a number of international festivals in the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

Bina loves to make films that are cinematic and well-crafted while reflecting her unique perspective, and utilising her skills in speaking to, and collaborating with, other people from diverse backgrounds.

Alexander McGhee - Producer/ Editor

Alexander McGhee is a seasoned television journalist, producing bulletins for CNN, the ABC and Sky News across Sydney and London for almost a decade. He was Executive Producer of Reporting Live with Stan Grant, Sky’s flagship current affairs program in Sydney, before taking up a position as a writer for CNN in London.

 

Alexander completed a combined Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) and Bachelor of International Studies at the University of Technology, Sydney.

 

Alexander loves to use his knack for presenting complex information visually and working to deadlines (essential to his job as a journalist) with his love of movies. He edits all of Gemme de la Femme’s projects.
